Sunny blue skies

Big beautiful blue skies in Bali today, with the most incredible cloud formations!

Sometimes the sky in Bali really does look as though someone has painted it. Sitting here looking out over Sanur Beach, I’m completely taken by the colour of the sky today. It is the most incredible azure blue, with huge, fluffy white clouds stretching across it. The contrast between the brilliant blue sky and bright white clouds is just amazing.

It is one of those Bali island days when everything seems a little more colourful. The sea is sparkling, the sky is enormous and the clouds are so dramatic that they almost don’t look real.

And, of course, I’m already thinking that it would make a great painting!

Living in Sanur, gives me so many opportunities to paint. I’m constantly noticing colours, light and little scenes that I want to capture in my sketchbook. The landscape here changes all the time, and even something as simple as looking out over Sanur Beach can look completely different from one day to the next.

The water is so shallow and calm due to the natural reef that surrounds the beach, Tara is busy looking for starfish, which somehow makes the whole scene even more perfect. There is something rather lovely about sitting on the beach, watching the clouds and the sea while she explores the water looking for starfish. It also gives an idea of scale for me when it comes to sketching this scene.

As an artist, I find the colours of Bali particularly inspiring. The incredible blue skies, mesmirising sea, tropical light and brilliant white clouds are all things I find myself wanting to put into my paintings.

Today’s sky is definitely one for the sketchbook.
